HumanS Remain
Driven by the belief that every life holds value, this non-profit organisation stands as an advocacy effort dedicated to supporting Death Row prisoners in Mississippi and amplifying their voices.
Through educating, storytelling and campaigning, we work towards the worldwide abolition of the death penalty, seeking justice that is humane, equitable and compassionate.
HumanS Remain is a collective of many of the incarcerated in Parchman, Mississippi, it’s their organisation telling their stories, their lives.
“I spend much of my time these days telling people people to carve out a role in life they feel passionately about. That’s exactly what Liz has done by establishing ‘HumanS Remain’, an advocacy organisation for death row, Mississippi.”
“Personally, I am proudest of the things I have done that help to humanize those who society tells us to demonize, so it’s great to see Liz doing just that.”
Clive Stafford Smith, Death Row lawyer

Vision
We wish to raise awareness of the unique cruelty and plight of prisoners sentenced to death. There are stories behind the headlines that deserve to be heard – abusive and neglected childhoods, poverty, children raised with gang violence, drugs, alcohol. These people are often subjected to poor and ineffective legal representation. Between 2017 and the present day, three men serving time on Death Row have been exonerated and released from Parchman, Mississippi. This could so easily have been a different statistic – three men who were innocent might have been executed.
Aim
We would like the State Governor, currently Mr Tate Reeves, along with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, to immediately halt any further death warrants being signed in the State and commit to a full and far reaching inquiry as to how in such a short space of time, three people have been found innocent within Death Row. There may well be many more and we need a moratorium in Mississippi until the situation has clarity. If a poultry factory was having issues with infected chickens the State would not hesitate to shut it down pending investigations. Why do we not levy this attention to human life?
